Time Marches On

Well, here I am again playing catch-up.  No excuses…………

I’ve been busy painting and also creating some paper crafted projects.  Today I met with my First Friday Artist friends and as usual, we had a lot to share and we also got in a little painting time.

The challenge for this month was Foreign Buildings.  These challenges are wide open.  You can interpret the subject any way you want – colored pencil, water color, pen and ink, charcoal, oil, acrylic, mixed media, – whatever.  You get the point.

I had seen some paintings rendered in an unusual style and have been thinking for some time about trying my hand at it.  So I found my pictures of England and decided to paint St Peter’s Church at Edensor.   I painted the entire canvas black, then worked the color into each element, leaving dark edges.  I worked several layers with glazes and also replacing the black occasionally  where needed, then working color into the black again so the whole thing wouldn’t look outlined.  So – for good or bad – here is the result.

And here are my friends with their paintings too.  I hope you enjoy their beautiful paintings.

You may have seen the pics from last month.  The challenge was Glass.  Oh boy!  I had fun with this one!

So I might as well throw this one in too.  This was the challenge for December.  We didn’t meet in January.

We all got the same photograph and we rendered the scene or parts of the scene in any way we wanted.

Next Month – BIRDS!

Love the covered bridge one especially. The shadows on the side of the bridge are so realistic.

I love all of them. What a great idea to pick a theme each month. I have a Thursday group. Sometimes, we paint the same thing and sometimes we do our own thing. I will have to bring this up with them.

    • Ronnie says:

Thank you Lorraine. We do both. We paint whatever we want on the day we meet, and we bring the challenge painting for show and tell and critique.

  8. Deborah Walkington says:

Loved them all, would have liked to have to have been able to see the church more detailed.
Also loved the covered bridge..I have ‘a thing ‘ about them and when we were in Pennsylvania sort them out, down lots of country lanes!
    Love Debbie.

    the church

    • Ronnie says:

Thanks, Debbie. My inspiration for the church painting is a very stylized type of painting with very loose detail – if any. Because I love detail so much it was hard and I actually ended up putting in more detail than I wanted! Maybe you’ve seen the covered bridge. Its called Pack Saddle Bridge.

What a great idea.like a book club only for artists! Wonder if I could get something like it started here. Where do get your pictures and who decides which to do?

    • Ronnie says:

Beth, it’s a rotating group so we meet at a different house each month. The hostess for the next month offers the challenge. Anything she wants and we have to find our own references and interpret them in our own way. Then we bring the finished painting to the next gathering for show and tell and critique (if we want one)
